Does chiropractic hurt?
The main techniques used at the clinic are very gentle and shouldn’t normally hurt, the audible cracking sounds associated with chiropractic also normally don’t occur with the techniques we use.
What happens on the first visit?
All new patients have an initial consultation where a full medical history in taken along with the appropriate orthopaedic and neurological tests this usually takes 45 minutes. Once all of the tests are completed the chiropractor compiles a report of the finding. You will be asked to return once the report is completed usually the following day so that your chiropractor can discuss the finding. If chiropractic care is appropriate a treatment plan is agreed upon and you will receive your first treatment (adjustment) at this time.
How many treatments will I need?
Every case is different depending on whether you are looking for relief from acute pain such as in backache or looking to maintain your health and wellbeing. As a general rule patients who are suffering from acute problems of less than 8 weeks normally respond well between 4-8 treatments. Where as chronic conditions (over 8 weeks old) may take longer to correct.
Do I need a GP referral?
No, however chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals and work closely with GP and other healthcare professionals.
